SQL Server DBA or Developer - SQL server & AWS - Famous London Arts Institution

A world-renowned institution based West London is looking for a SQL Server DBA and SQL development skills if you have them. You will be joining a team of 3 and working within and IT department of circa 20 staff. Your role will be a mix of project and BAU activities.

Essential Knowledge / Skills and Experience

  • Substantial experience of working with SQL
  • Experience in database administration and experience of IT service delivery (third line support)
  • Experience of the following database technologies:
    • Microsoft SQL 2012 and 2016, including AlwaysOn Availability Groups
    • Open-source database systems (e.g. MySQL)
    • NoSQL database systems (e.g. DynamoDB)
    • Managed database solutions (e.g. AWS RDS / Azure SQL DB) - training provided
  • Experience of the following Windows technologies:
    • Internet Information Services 7
    • Windows Failover Clustering
    • PowerShell scripting
  • Experience ofAWS technologies, including:
    • EC2 (including auto-scaling groups, ELB, launch configurations)
    • RDS, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, SES, SQS, S3, Kibana and CLI
  • Experienced SSRS/SSIS developer
  • Experience developing VBA macros and working with Microsoft Access databases
  • Experience of load testing, familiarity with load testing software and tools (e.g. jMeter, BlazeMeter)
  • Familiarity working with SOAP and REST APIs
  • Experienced in use of database monitoring software (e.g. Idera)
  • Demonstrable understanding of the principles of networking and internet technologies


  • Monitor database performance and query throughput
  • Monitor and maintain databases and database resources following best practice and good governance
  • Review, develop and maintain maintenance plans to ensure systems perform efficiently and effectively
  • Proactively monitor systems to anticipate potential issues before they occur
  • Plan, test and implement database systems installation and upgrades
  • Maintain and administer database security access
  • Regularly review logs and security logs to ensure the good performance safety, security of database systems, following best practices
  • Automate processes and improve efficiency of data management processes
  • Lead on load testing of website ticketing path according to best practice, in preparation for deployment of new solutions, system or application upgrades
  • Assist Database Lead with SQL Server updates
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest Microsoft SQL Server developments and features
